Pittsfield Charter Twp, MichiganTownship Receives 2008 Utility of the Year AwardPittsfield Charter Township is the proud recipient of the 2008 Utility of the Year Award from the Michigan Rural Water Association (MRWA). Township Utilities Director Michael Luptowski accepted the award on March 20, 2008 at the annual MRWA conference in Traverse City, Michigan. “I am pleased to see our staff recognized for their hard work and contributions to the Township,” stated Mr. Luptowski. “Because we are a small department, every employee is called upon to fill multiple roles. Although the past year was a little rough with the loss of our crew leader Dave Prichard, I am so proud of our current team, who pulled together to help fill this void and continued to deliver outstanding service to Township residents.” Pittsfield’s Utilities Department delivers safe drinking water and collects wastewater for residents in the Utilities Service Area of the Township. The Department’s responsibilities include management of booster stations and lift stations, maintenance of water and sewer lines, meter reading, billing and customer service. Over the past four years, Pittsfield Charter Township successfully completed a massive upgrade to its water distribution system, including the installation of a five-million gallon ground storage tank as well as several miles of water main. The Township has also replaced an aging booster station in order to ensure reliable supply of water for drinking and fire protection. Pittsfield is also one of the first in Michigan to install environmentally friendly, cured-in-place pipe, which should prevent sewer backups and road failures. This improvement will add an additional 50 years life to the sanitary sewer system.
