Leaves and grass clippings must be placed in brown paper composting bags or in a trash container with handles that is clearly marked "yard waste". Labels are available at the Municipal Services Office. Yard waste containers must be set at least two feet away from other containers. Yard waste is collected weekly between April 1st and November 30th of each year.
- Where can I get a recycling bin?
Customers may contact Great Lakes Waste Services toll free at (800) 234-3311 to have a recycling bin dropped off. In the event of moving, the bin is to remain at the residence.
- What is the process for scheduling an inspection for the place I am renting?
To request an inspection, a legal tenant must complete an Inspection Request Form and pay the fee of $20.00 prior to the inspection being scheduled. This form is available to print from our website. For more information, please contact the Housing Inspector at (734) 822-3129.
- Who has to pay for an inspection, the tenant or the landlord?
When the legal tenant requests a rental inspection, he/she is responsible for the required fee.
- How do I get a copy of the Building Department's fee and inspection schedule?
The current fee and inspection schedule is available from the Building Department. It is also available on our web site.
- Who is responsible for repairing roads?
Public roads in the Township are the responsibility of the Washtenaw County Road Commission.
- Who is responsible for snow removal?
The Washtenaw County Road Commission is responsible for winter maintainance on county roads. This includes applying salt and sand as well as plowing snow on roadways and shoulders.
- Who do I call if there is a water main break in the street?
In case of water emergencies after business hours, please call (734) 822-2110.
- How often are water and sewer bills mailed?
Billings for water and sewer services are sent every three months for residential customers and every month for commercial customers. Bills can be paid in person or by mail at the Treasurer's Office at the Township Hall.
- Where can I get a copy of Township Ordinances?
A codified copy of Pittsfield Charter Township Ordinances is available for review in the Clerk's Office.
- Where can I get information on how to recycle properly?
Brochures on proper recycling are enclosed in all packets given to new residents when transfer affidavits are filed with the Assessor's Office or a new account is started with Municipal Services for water/sewer and/or rubbish services. Questions on recycling can be forwarded to the Pittsfield Township Utilities Department at (734) 822-3105.
- Who provides rubbish collection services?
Rubbish and recycling services are provided by Great Lakes Waste Services through a subsciption service and are billed to participating residents on a quarterly basis. Rubbish bills can be paid at the Treasurer's Office.
- How do I prepare "bulk rubbish" for pickup?
Bulk rubbish includes tree branches, six inches in diameter or less, hedge clippings, cardboard containers, or other bulk refuse. These must be securely tied in bundles no greater than forty-eight inches long by eighteen inches in diameter, and weighing no more than 60 pounds.
- Are recycling services available in the Township?
Pittsfield Township in cooperation with Great Lakes Waste Services offers a curbside recycling and yard waste program. This comes at no additional charge to participating Pittsfield households.
- Where can I recycle hazardous materials such as batteries and flammables?
The Washtenaw County Home Toxics Reduction Center is a permanent drop-off site where residents can safely dispose of household hazardous wastes. All services are provided free of charge. For more information call Jeff at (734) 997-1472 or the information line at 971-7356. The Ann Arbor Drop-Off Station accepts car batteries, tires and most non-contaminated automotive fluids. They can be reached at 971-7400 ext. 4. More information on recycling can be obtained by visiting the Washtenaw County website at www.co.washtenaw.mi.us.
