Deferment Information

Income Limit Raised To $40,000 For Property Tax Deferments

A new $40,000 household income limit has been established for qualified applicants who wish to defer their summer and winter property taxes until April 30, 2008. The previous income level for property tax deferments was $35,000.

You may apply for a deferment this year if your household income for the preceding calendar year did not exceed $40,000, and you meet one of the following guidelines:

a) You are 62 years of age or older (this includes the unmarried surviving spouse of a person who was 62 years of age or older at the time of death); or

b) A paraplegic or quadriplegic; or

c) An eligible serviceperson, eligible veteran, or their eligible widow or widower; or

d) A blind person; or

e) A totally and permanently disabled person.

Agricultural property may qualify for deferral if the gross receipts of the farming operation are not less than the household income of the owner.

Applications for Deferment of Summer and Winter Taxes are available at the Treasurer’s Office in Pittsfield Township. Applications are due by September 15, 2007.
