Your Township Supervisor along with the Township Clerk and Township Treasurer are the elected administrative officers of Pittsfield Charter Township. Each of these offices has specific responsibilities which are either defined by statute or by Township Board policy.
The title Supervisor is well-chosen since your Township Supervisor oversees many important Township departments. In Pittsfield Charter Township the following departments report to the Supervisor:
•Assessing
•Building Inspection
•Engineering
•Housing Commission
•Human Resources
•Information Technology
•Parks and Recreation
•Planning
•Public Safety
•Utilities
The Supervisor presides over the meetings of the Board of Trustees and represents Pittsfield Charter Township on many committees such as Washtenaw Area Transportation Study, Urban County Executive Committee, Washtenaw Metro Alliance, Washtenaw County Link Michigan Committee, The Community–Prison Liaison Committee, The Southeast Michigan Council of Governments (SEMCOG), and The Washtenaw Development Council. The Supervisor is often the one contacted by the public to resolve problems, handle complaints, and explain Township policies and services. In short your Supervisor could be considered the public contact for Pittsfield Charter Township.
State Law mandates that the Supervisor along with the rest of the Township Board be elected in partisan elections for four-year terms. The election for township officials are held in the General Election in the years whose numbers are divisible by four (4).
Furthermore the Supervisor has the responsibility to create and present the annual budget, prepare the agenda for each Township Board meeting, and appoint (with Board approval) members of the Planning Commission and the Housing Commission.
The Supervisor’s office is staffed by the Supervisor and the Deputy Supervisor and may be contacted by phone at: (734) 822-3136 or by e-mail at: supervisor@pittsfieldtwp.org.
