 State General Election--Tuesday, November 4, 2008

Election Inspectors Wanted: Pittsfield Charter Township is recruiting registered voters in Washtenaw County to work as paid Election Inspectors (poll workers) during the 2008 election cycle. Attendance at a paid team training session is required to work as an election inspector. You must be able to work from 6:00 a.m. until late in the evening on Election Day. Applications are available on-line or contact the Clerk’s Office at (734) 822-3120 for additional information. (EOE)

Registration Deadlines:If you are not currently registered, you must register 30 days prior to an election to be eligible to vote in that election. The following are the registration deadlines for each election.

  • July 7, 2008 is the last day to register for the August 5 Primary Election
  • October 6, 2008 is the last day to register for the November 4 General Election

To download, print and mail a Michigan Voter Registration Application, click here.

Updating Your Registration Name and Address: If you move, change your name, or need to make a correction to your registration, you can update your voter registration in person or by mail. Michigan law requires that you use the same name and address for both your driver’s license and your voter registration, so if you change one, the data system will automatically change the other.  You can update your voter registration by mail or at any of the locations listed above.

Absentee Voting: To vote by Absent Voter Ballot, call 822-3120, or email clerk@pittsfieldtwp.org. You can request a single election ballot application or ask to be on the Permanent AV application list. You must fill out an AV application before each election to receive an absentee ballot.

If you have already registered by mail and will not be available to vote in person on Election Day, visit the Clerk’s Office to have an election official witness your signature, so we can send you an absentee ballot.

New Voter Identification Requirement: Due to a recent court ruling, every Michigan voter who offers to vote in the polls must comply with the new requirement by showing picture identification or signing an affidavit attesting that he or she is not in possession of picture identification.

Voters without picture identification: Michigan election law anticipates that not all voters will have picture identification. Voters who do not bring picture identification to the polls or do not possess picture identification can still vote like any other voter by signing an affidavit.

Precinct Boundary Changes:In order to provide better service to voters during this busy election year, some voting precinct boundary lines have been modified. In addition, Precinct 8 will be moved to the Washtenaw Christian Academy starting with the May 6 School Election. If your voting location is changed, you will receive a new voter identification card in the mail.

Refer to your voter identification card for your precinct number and then click here to see your precinct’s voting location. If you are not sure of your precinct number, click here to go to the Secretary of State's personalized voter information site. After you enter your name, the site will display your voting location, and you can choose to see your ballot.

Feel free to contact the Clerk's Office at (734) 822-3120, to verify your precinct number and voting location.
